Every Saturday, the UBI's gather with friends and supporters on Zoom for a casual table read of a new or classic work. The readings are usually 'cold,' meaning the actors have not rehearsed in advance - and in many cases, have never met each other before the reading!
We usually provide an intermission, and will advise the audience about that and any other details in advance of the reading. Audience members arrive shortly before 'curtain,' and we ask that the audience turns off their mics and cameras until after the show - when the cast and audience hang out together for casual discussion of the show, its themes, its ideas, or anything else inspired by the play. Readings are cast a week in advance, either by lottery - or in the case of a new work, by the playwright's request - with readers pulled from our large ensemble. F.A.Q.1. WHY DO YOU CALL THEM 'READINGS'?
Because with rare exceptions, Ubiquitous Players presents unrehearsed, casual table reads, where the actors are not memorized but are literally 'reading' their lines from the script. Actors also may or may not be in costume or use props, they may or may not stay seated the entire time, there may or may not be sound effects or music, an errant dog, cat, child, or Wi-Fi glitch may be part of the experience. We never really know what might happen at a Ubiquitous Players reading, but watching a group of talented, passionate actors working on the fly to make art is half the fun!
2. Is it free to attend?
Always! Once in awhile we may raise money for a charity, but donation participation is strictly voluntary and does not impact access to the reading.
3. how do i get the zoom link?
Each reading has its own unique Zoom link. To get that, you'll need to be on our mailing list - which you can sign up for HERE
4. WHAT DO I DO WITH THE ZOOM LINK?
Just wait until about 5 minutes before the reading starts, and then - click it!
We ask that all audience members turn off their mic and camera as soon as they "arrive," and for the best viewing experience, we recommend that you select "Hide non-video participants." Prior to the start of the reading, an UBI company member will remind everyone about the Zoom settings, and advise about intermission and anything else of importance. After the show, ALL attendees are encouraged to turn ON their mics and cameras and be part of the post-show discussion! |
